Mission. The Keeping Society, a 501c3, is Philadelphia's premiere preservation organization focused solely on nominating and protecting historic resources through designation by the Philadelphia Historical Commission—the primary method to protect our historic fabric from alteration and demolition. Since the seeds of our labors were planted nearly six years ago, the Keeping Society and its principal volunteers have nominated, co-nominated and authored over 100 properties
 
Accomplishments in 2021. The Keeping Society of Philadelphia achieved designation for The Chestnut Street East Historic District (47 Buildings & Structures); The Disston-Tacony Industrial Waterfront Historic District (34 Buildings & Structures); The "Sleepy Hollow" Mill Complex & Site (ca.1736-44) at 5115-39 Belfield Ave. in Germantown; The Winston Stable (1902) at 5208 Wayne Avenue; a Second Empire Style Twin at 5200-08 Wayne Avenue in Germantown; The John S. Trower Building (1869) at 5706 Germantown Avenue in Germantown; The Robeson Lea Perot Residence at 5151 Wissahickon Avenue in Germantown; the Major Philip R. Freas House (ca.1726-63) at 5151 Germantown Avenue in Germantown; The St. Martin's Coal Co. (1916) at 7600 Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy; The Joseph Pearson House at 5139 Wayne Avenue (ca.1857/Demolished); the Joseph Meehan House (1886) at 121 Pleasant Street in Mt. Airy; Boxwood at 156 W. School House Lane in Germantown; The Cumberland Street M.E. Church at 2038-46 E. Cumberland Street in Kensington; The Lamon House (ca.1906-10) at 340 Gates Street in Roxborough; Wright Cottage (1854-56) at 404 Fountain Street in Roxborough; The Love Building (1880) at 1523 Chestnut Street; The Wall & Ochs Building (1898) at 1716 Chestnut Street; Sophy Curson (1951) at 122 S. 19th Street; Hahnemann Hospital (1928) at 222-46 N. Broad Street; the J.E. Limeburner Co. Store (1925) at 1923 Chestnut Street; the Durham & Co. Radio Showroom (1928) at 2006 Chestnut Street; and other commercial, residential, and industrial buildings.
 
Additionally, we have numerous nominations pending designation, review, and submittal, including the several buildings in Chestnut Street West; the Taws' Gardner's Cottage at 224 W. Washington Lane in Germantown; The Southwark Municipal Piers, Nos. 38 & 40 (1914-15) at 775 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.; The Shimwell & Logan Building (1921) at 1935-37 Chestnut Street; Mayor Alexander Henry's Stable at 3421R Warden Drive in East Falls; The Potter House at 5920 Greene Street in Germantown (1892); The Infirmary of the Home for Aged & Infirm Colored Persons--The Stephen Smith Home at 4501 Poplar Street in West Philadelphia; the Gothic Revival style Point Breeze Gas Works (1851-59).
